October 15: Slither

movie reviews

Slither is one of those movies that makes me very nearly die from sheer glee every time I see it. Alien slug things inhabit humans, turning them into mutant zombie things. It’s funny. It’s clever. It’s a horror film for horror fans.

This mainstream b-movie was written and directed by James Gunn, the same guy who did the Dawn of the Dead remake and the classic Tromeo & Juliet. In Slither, he combines the creepiness of the former with the goofiness of the latter to build a pretty fantastic midnight movie.

You would be hard-pressed to find another scene that rivals this movie’s epic finale. Go ahead and try. I dare you.
